JACKSON, Mississippi –
Paighton Corley,
Matthew Gregory, and
Ravon Davis-Conway all took home individual titles, highlighting the Concordia Texas track and field team's performance during the second day of the American Southwest Conference Championships on Friday.
The second day of the ASC meet began with the conclusion of the heptathlon and decathlon events, and followed with the finals for multiple field events and the preliminary rounds of track events.
Corley took home the heptathlon title with a total score of 3,829 points after notching top-three finishes in each of the last three events. Included in these events was the long jump, where Corley set a new ASC meet program record by jumping 4.90m. This eclipsed the previous record of 4.89m, set by Katie Baker in 2015.
In addition to coming out on top in the heptathlon, Corley secured a place in the finals for the 100m and 400m hurdles after a strong showing in the preliminary rounds. She scored a second-place finish in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:12.18, and placed seventh in the 100m hurdles, clocking in at 17.61.
Gregory was the second Tornado to secure a first-place finish, throwing a distance of 14.77m in the shot put. The senior thrower, who already owns the overall program record of 14.86m, set a new school record for the ASC meet with his throw today.
Davis-Conway set a new personal record on his way to an individual title, jumping a distance of 6.90m to take first place in the long jump.
Additionally,
Bayli Luke shattered the program record in the 400m while qualifying for the finals. She came in at first place with a time of 57.65, jumping her own program record of 58.23 set in the 2019 ASC Championships. Luke also secured a spot in the 200m finals, placing fifth after running a 26.19.
Sadie Ingram competed in the heptathlon as well, placing seventh with 2,948 points after running a season-best time of 3:01.85 in the 800m event to conclude the heptathlon.
In the decathlon,
Alejandro Salazar closed out the final five events with a personal-best time of 19.54 in the 110m hurdles and first-place finishes in the 1500m run, clocking in at 4:47.82, and the javelin, throwing a distance of 45.26m. He totaled 4,539 points, good for fourth place overall.
In the field events on the women's side,
Kendall Simpson secured a fifth-place finish in the pole vault with a vault of 2.34m. In the discus throw,
Rachele Piccirello threw 29.52m for ninth place and
Stefanie Saenz threw 28.32m for 14th place.
In the long jump,
Anayah Anderson marked a new personal-best jump of 4.78m, good for ninth place.
On the men's side,
Rayvon Parker concluded the Tornados field competitors for the day, finishing 18th place in the long jump with a distance of 5.66m.
Jacob Ismir ran to a fourth-place finish in the 3,000m steeplechase, setting a new program-best mark in the event with a time of 10:27.12.
In the women's 3,000m steeplechase,
Kristine Regalado took fourth place after running a 14:53.01.
In the track events, several Tornados notched top-eight finishes in the preliminary rounds to qualify for the finals on Saturday.
On the men's side, a pair of CTX hurdles qualified for the finals in the 110m hurdles.
Brett Jackson is the first, placing second with a time of 15.48, and
Terrance Pellerin notched a fifth-place finish with a time of 16.11.
Four Tornados set a new personal record in the 400m, starting with
Tevin Smith, who earned a spot in the finals with a sixth-place finish after running a 49.69.
Jorge Garcia and Michael Williams also set new marks, coming in at 52.44 and 52.51, respectively. Finally,
Cristian Jimenez bested his previous record with a time of 53.84.
Samuel Stewart qualified for the 800m finals, finishing fourth with a personal-best run of 1:58.7.
Miguel Morales also surpassed his previous best time in the event, crossing the finish line at 2:12.04.
Preston Perkins qualified for the final round, coming in fourth place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.70. Davis-Conway rounds out the men's qualifiers, placing seventh in the 200m, registering a 22.41.
On the women's side,
Raeanna New secured a spot in the 100m finals, placing eighth with a 12.93 sprint. New also guaranteed herself a spot in the 200m finals, marking a person-best time of 26.52, good for seventh place.
Bianca Bagwell will compete in the 800m again tomorrow, earning her spot in the finals after running a personal-best 2:29.37.
Kendall Boutte rounds out the qualifiers on the women's side, running to an eight-place finish with a personal best 1:18.31. Boutte also set a new personal mark in the 100m hurdles, finishing in 19.26.
The Tornados will return to the Belhaven Track Complex in Jackson, Mississippi on Saturday for the conclusion of the ASC meet. The final day will feature the final field events and the championship rounds of the track events, and many CTX athletes will have a chance to take home an ASC title.
