JACKSON, Miss. –
Ravon Davis-Conway jumped a distance of 14.36m to win the triple jump, while
Bianca Bagwell ran a time of 2:27.52 to win the 800m event for her first career individual conference title as the Concordia Texas Track and Field team closed out the final day of the American Southwest Conference Championships on Saturday at the Belhaven Track Complex.
Davis-Conway, who won the long jump event on Friday for his first career ASC individual title, jumped a distance of 14.36m on his first attempt in the triple jump and never looked back, securing his second individual championship of the meet. It was the best triple jump mark by a Tornado at the conference meet in school history.
The Austin, Texas native is the first Tornado to win two ASC individual events at the conference championships since 2019 when Gabriel Spivey accomplished the feat and is the first male athlete in school history to win two ASC field event titles in the same year.
For his performance throughout the meet, Davis-Conway was selected as the ASC Field Athlete of the Year, the first winner of the award in program history, as well as being named to the ASC First Team, his first career selection.
Bagwell, meanwhile, made the most of her first conference meet, running a personal record time of 2:27.52 to win the 800m run. She becomes the first Tornado to win the event at the conference meet since CTX Head Coach
Megan Wagenaar won it in 2015.
Bagwell's ASC individual championship along with
Paighton Corley's heptathlon individual title from Friday is the first time the women's team has captured two individual event wins at the ASC Championships since Katie Baker won the long jump and javelin in 2015.
Bagwell nearly pulled off her second win of the meet earlier in the day, in the 1,500m run, where she finished second with a PR time of 5:09.28, only 1.12 seconds behind the individual champion Alexis Segura of LeTourneau.
The Winnie, Texas native was an ASC First Team selection for her showing at the conference meet.
In the 400m dash,
Bayli Luke set the school record in the event for the second day in a row, clocking in a PR time of 56.40 and just falling short of the individual win by .03 seconds. It is the second straight ASC Championships Luke has finished as the runner-up in the event. Her current time ranks seventh in the nation in DIII.
She also took eighth in the 200m dash later in the day, earning her second consecutive All-ASC honor, being named to the ASC Second Team.
Luke and Bagwell were joined by teammate Corley, who was named to the ASC First Team after winning the heptathlon with a total of 3,829 points on Friday. It is the second straight season, three or more CTX athletes earned All-ASC honors
Back on the men's side,
Brett Jackson and
Tevin Smith each earned their first All-ASC selections after their performances during the final day of the meet.
Jackson has his best run of the year in the 110m hurdles, crossing the finish line with a PR time of 15.23 and took second in the event. Meanwhile, later in the day in the 400m dash, Smith clocked a PR time of 48.44 for a second-place finish in the event. His time currently ranks 13th in the nation in DIII.
Both Tornados were named to the ASC Second Team at the end of the meet, while
Matthew Gregory, who won the program's first shot put title on Friday, joined Davis-Conway on the ASC First Team.
It is the most All-ASC selections for the program since seven Tornados received conference honors back in 2013.
In the team standings, the women's team finished fifth overall with 75 points. It is their highest point total at the conference meet since 2015.
On the men's side, CTX placed fourth, their best team finish at the conference meet since 2014. They accumulated a total of 97 points, their most at the ASC Championships since 2013.
Other highlights from the women's team on the final day of the ASC Championships, included several PR performances.
In the 200m dash,
Raeanna New set a PR time of 26.22 to place fourth in the event. New also had a seventh-place finish in the 100m dash finals, running a time of 12.96 to wrap up her day.
Corley concluded her ASC Championships with a fourth place finish in the 400m hurdles, crossing the finish line in a time of 1:09.87. Teammate
Kendall Boutte took eighth in the event, registering a time of 1:18.47.
Kristine Regalado finished the meet on a high note, setting a PR time in the 1,500m run with a mark of 6:08.72.
In the field events,
Anayah Anderson had her third-best mark of the season in the triple jump, reaching a distance of 10.52m and finishing fourth in the event.
Meanwhile,
Rachele Piccirello threw a PR distance of 10.63m in the shot put to take seventh and was followed by
Stefanie Saenz, who placed eighth in the event with a throw of 10.60m.
On the men's side,
Rick Platas broke his own school record in the 5,000m run, while
Sam Stewart had a pair of strong showings in the 800m and 1500m races.
Platas, who set the school record in the 5,000m back on April 10, broke his own mark with a time of 16:11.16 to finish seventh in the event.
Stewart, meanwhile, took sixth in the 1,500m run, crossing the finish line with a time of 4:15.75. Teammate
Jacob Ismir placed 11th in the race with a PR time of 4:19.74.
Stewart closed out his day with a fifth-place finish in the 800m dash, clocking in a time of 2:00.48.
Preston Perkins set a PR in the 400m hurdles to wrap up his first career conference meet, registering a time of 55.47 and taking fourth in the event. Salazar, meanwhile, set the school's ASC meet record in the pole vault, clearing a height of 2.64m and finishing ninth in the event.
In the relay races, the Tornados had their best runs of the season.
The 4x100m team of
Terrance Pellerin,
Tristan Yates, Davis-Conway and Smith took fifth in the event, clocking in season-best time of 43.01.
In the final event of the ASC Championships, the 4x400m relay, the quartet of Perkins, Michael Williams,
Brant Byers and Smith crossed the finish line in a season-best time of 3:26.13 to finish fourth.
Concordia Texas closes out the ASC Championships with five individual titles, seven All-ASC selections and seven school records set between the men's and women's teams.
