Tornados open fall season with Cowgirl Classic

| BOX SCORE 2 ABILENE, Texas - Isabella Wiik and Kayla Pena each picked up a win as the Concordia Texas women's tennis team competed in the Cowgirl Classic on Friday and Saturday. 
 
Wiik and Pena each took home a win in singles play, with the Tornados going 2-4 overall on day one.
 
Pena, a freshman out of Rio Grande City, Texas, won in convincing fashion with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Hardin-Simmons' Lauren Schaeffer in her first collegiate match.
 
Wiik earned the second CTX win of the day, earning a 6-3, 6-2 victory over another HSU player, Priscilla Schimming.
 
Kaitlin Stevens battled to a tiebreaker, but ultimately fell to HSU's Ximena Benitez.
 
Trinity Klamecki came up just short in a 6-3, 6-4 defeat, and Emily Hines was on the wrong end of 6-1, 6-0 loss.
 
Finally, senior Alejandra Rueda rounded out the Tornados' singles matches, falling 6-4, 6-2.

The Tornados competed in doubles play the next day, squaring off with McMurry, but falling in all three matches. 

First, Wiik and Pena teamed up for a back-and-forth battle, but came up short 8-6. 

Klamecki and Claire Austin were the next duo to take the court, falling to McMurry's Turner and Smith 8-2, and Rueda and Hines were the final pair of Tornados to compete, falling 8-4 in the final match of the day. 

Concordia Texas also faced off against conference foe Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Stevens and Pena picked up an 8-2 victory over the Cru's Chloe Norris and Adrianna McElwain, while Wiik and Hines snagged the second doubles win over the Cru on the day, defeating Aubrey Thomas and Vicky Rendon 8-3. Klamecki and Austin rounded out out the Tornados' play, falling 8-6 in their match.

With the Cowgirl Classic in the books, CTX will look to their second fall tournament, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southwest Regional, beginning on Sept. 30 in Houston on the campus of St. Thomas (TX).
