Tornados fall 4-3 to Texas Wesleyan in season opener

BOX SCORE ARLINGTON, Texas – The Concordia Texas women's tennis team began their season at Texas Wesleyan, coming up short in a tightly contested 4-3 defeat on Saturday.
 
The first two matches of the Tornados' 2022 season were canceled due to weather, but they finally returned to the court against the Rams.
 
Kayla Pena and Trinity Klamecki, a pair of freshmen, each picked up two wins in their spring season debut, running off to hot start in the spring opener.
 
In doubles play, Concordia Texas came away with a point after winning two of three matches to start the day.
 
Natalia Goodman and Pena earned the first CTX victory, winning 6-3 at line two, and Claire Austin and Klamecki played to a 6-4 win at line three.
 
The Tornados picked up two more wins in singles play, but came up just shy of an overall win, ultimately falling 4-3 in the dual match.
 
Pena dominated at line two, winning 6-1, 6-0 in straight sets, and Klamecki capped off the day with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at line six.
 
Kaitlin Stevens battled at line five, falling in two sets despite forcing a tiebreaker in the first.
 
The Tornados will plan for a quick turnaround, taking on Austin College in Sherman, Texas on Sunday at 10 a.m.
