Tornados roll past Texas Lutheran in home opener

BOX SCORE AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas women's tennis team dropped only one match and picked up their second straight win, defeating Texas Lutheran 8-1 in their home opener on Friday at the Austin Tennis Academy.

The Tornados played at home for the first time in 2022 after opening the season on the road against Texas Wesleyan and Austin College.

Concordia Texas were comfortable right at home, winning two of three matches in doubles and sweeping the singles matches.

In doubles, the Tornados secured victories at lines one and two. Kaitlin Stevens and Isabella Wiik wasted no time at line two to secure the first win of the day, taking care of the Bullsdogs' Kaitlyn Enloe and Haley Hoffman 8-1.

Trinity Klamecki and Claire Austin followed suit at line three, picking up an 8-2 victory to give the Tornados a 2-0 lead heading into singles.

In singles play, Kayla Pena snagged her lone win of the day, taking care of Elena Brancaleon 6-2, 6-4 at line one. Wiik had her second victory of the day, this one at line two, not dropping a set in a 6-4, 6-2 win.

Natalia Goodman also did not drop a set in her match, walking away with a 6-3, 6-1 win at line three. Stevens and Klamecki, meanwhile, rolled in their matches at line four and five, respectively.

Emily Hines closed out the match for CTX at line six, shutting out Kara Bucey 6-0, 6-0.

The Tornados will have a quick turnaround on the courts, hosting Schreiner on Saturday at 2 p.m. at River Place Country Club in Austin, Texas.
