Toro sets discus school record, Tornados compete at D3 Challenge

SEGUIN, Texas – Erin Toro continued her record-setting spring season, besting her own school record in the hammer throw, as the Concordia Texas track and field team competed at the D3 Challenge on Saturday.
 
Toro threw a mark of 36.57m, eclipsing the existing school record of 34.58m she set two weeks ago at the Wes Kittley Invitational, and earned a fourth-place finish at the event. Toro now holds the record in both the discus and the hammer throw.
 
The senior also competed in the shot put and the discus throw. She registered a personal-best throw of 11.27m in the shot put, good for fourth place, and finished tenth in the discus with a heave of 31.92m.
 
In addition to Toro, multiple CTX athletes set new personal bests and earned top-ten finishes on the women's side.
 
In the 100m, Kallie Krenz clocked in at 13.56 for 20th place, and Lauren Rekward recorded a time of 13.87 for 23rd place.
 
Next, Jada Calais finished 11th in the 100m hurdles, running to a personal-best time of 18.76. The freshman also made her debut in the 400m hurdles, recording a time of 1:21.08 for eighth place.
 
Daria Jefferson picked up a top-ten finish in the high jump, jumping a personal-best mark of 1.51m. Marisley Flores finished in the top-ten as well, jumping 1.41m for tenth place.
 
Krenz made her debut in the long jump, leaping 4.60m for 13th place, and Rekward followed with a mark of 4.20m for 20th place.
 
In the shot put, Allese Crutcher was the second Tornado in the top ten, finishing eighth with a personal-best toss of 10.50m. She also competed in the discus throw, finishing 15th with a distance of 29.53m.
 
Jessica Day earned a third-place finish in the javelin throw, throwing a distance of 33.27m, and Avery Smith followed in 16th place with a 19.83m heave. Sophia West rounded out the CTX competitors in the event, throwing a distance of 15.51m for 20th place.
 
On the men's side, the Tornados marked more personal records on the day.
 
First, Jacob Land finished 14th in the 100m, setting a new personal record with a time of 11.10 seconds. Chance Miller followed in 22nd place with a PR of his own, clocking in at 11.19 seconds, and Jackson Henry marked a personal best at 11.25 seconds for 25th place. Rayvon Parker was close behind in 26th place, running a wind-aided 11.36.
 
Land was also the top Tornado runner in the 200m, marking a new personal best of 22.34 seconds in 11th place. Chance Miller finished 22nd in the event, running a wind-aided time of 23.22, and Rayvon Parker finished 28th with a new personal record, recording a time of 23.30.
 
Cristian Jimenez led CTX in the 400m, finishing 14th with a time of 53.29, and Jorge Garcia followed in 19th place, running a time of 53.88. Tony Zamora was next, finishing 20th with a time of 55.50, and Julian Garza ran 59.90 for 28th place in his 400m debut.
 
Zamora marked a personal record in the 400m hurdles, running to a personal-best time of 59.96 for ninth place.
 
Sunny Ozoh made his track and field debut with a sixth-place finish in the high jump, leaping 1.86m, and Bobby Espericueta finished 10th with a best jump of 1.86m as well.
 
In the long jump, Landon Norsworthy recorded a personal-best jump of 7.23m, finishing in second place. Ravon Davis-Conway was also in the top ten, finishing tenth with a 6.57m jump, and Henry finished 13th with a 6.46m jump in his long jump debut.
 
Davis-Conway tied for second in the triple jump, leaping 14.14m, and Travion Walker followed in eighth place with a 13.08m jump.
 
In the shot put, Tristan Yates made his event debut, finishing 15th with a 10.05m toss. The sophomore also made his discus debut with a 15th-place finish, throwing a distance of 31.85m.
 
Dylan Day wrapped up the event with a 13th-place finish in the javelin, throwing a season-best 39.01m.
 
Concordia Texas will return to the track on April 8, competing at the UIW Invitational in San Antonio at Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium.
