SAN ANTONIO –
Erin Toro, competing in her first meet for the Concordia Texas Track and Field team, set a school record in discus, throwing a distance of 37.21m at the Trinity Invitational on Saturday.
The Tornados, who had a delayed start to their 2022 season after the postponement of the HSU Invitational back on Feb. 26, had a successful first meet of the season.
Toro had the most significant performance of the meet for CTX, setting a school record in the discus event. The Flower Mound, Texas native placed eighth in the event, throwing a program-best distance of 37.21m.
On the women's side, the Tornados recorded several top-10 performances on the day.
Bayli Luke opened her season with a third-place finish in the 200m dash, clocking in a time of 25.97. Meanwhile,
Bianca Bagwell, opened her sophomore season with an eighth-place finish in the 800m run, crossing the finish line in a time of 2:29.32.
In the field events, newcomers
Marisely Flores and
Jessica Day shined for CTX.
In the high jump, Flores took sixth after clearing a height of 1.42m, while Day placed fifth in javelin, throwing for a distance of 34.19m.
On the men's side,
Cristian Jimenez,
Landon Norsworthy and
Travion Walker all had personal-best days
In the 400m dash,
Tevin Smith was the top finisher for the Tornados, placing fourth with a time of 49.34, while Jimenez set a personal record in the event, crossing the finish line in a time of 52.69.
Norsworthy had the best mark in the long jump for CTX, setting a PR with a distance of 6.85m to place fifth overall, while
Ravon Davis-Conway took ninth in the event with a distance of 6.67m.
Meanwhile, in the triple jump, Davis Conway took second with a mark of 14.71m, while Walker posted a PR with a distance of 13.11m.
On the track,
Sam Stewart,
Kamron Loera,
Preston Perkins and
Jacob Ismir all had top-10 finishes for Tornados.
Stewart took ninth in the 800m run, recording a time of 1:59.40, while in the 5,000m run, Loera finished sixth with a time of 16:21.54.
Perkins was the top runner for CTX in the 400m hurdles, clocking in a time of 59.13 to finish eighth, while Ismir placed sixth in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 11:03.15.
In the field events,
Bobby Espericueta also had a top-10 placement, taking eighth in the high jump after clearing a height of 1.90m.
Next, the Tornados will travel to Abilene, Texas for the Wes Kittley Invitational, which will be held on March 17-19 on the campus of Abilene Christian.
