ABILENE, Texas –
Bayli Luke and
Landon Norsworthy each took home individual titles at the American Southwest Conference Championships, leading the Concordia Texas track and field team as they wrapped up the league meet Saturday.
Luke qualified for the finals in the 200m, 400m, and 800m, running all three events Saturday, and excelled in all three. First, Luke won the 400m with a time of 57.57, finishing a full three seconds faster than the second-place runner, and then she won her second medal with a first-place finish in the 800m, clocking in at 2:30.10. Finally, she finished fourth in the 200m, recording a mark of 25.72.
Norsworthy earned the long jump crown, leaping 7.15m to earn the individual title.
Erin Toro set a school record with a 37.76m hammer throw, besting her previous record of 36.57m, and she set a program ASC meet record with a 35.78m discus throw, finishing fifth and fourth in the events, respectively. Toro also finished fourth in shot put with a distance of 11.48m and 16th in javelin with a 24.59m throw.
Jessica Day, who already owns the CTX javelin record, also set a new program ASC meet record, throwing a distance 35.31m in the javelin.
On the men's side,
Sunny Ozoh had a stellar performance in his first ASC meet, finishing in a tie-for-second with a 1.96m mark.
In addition to Norsworthy,
Ravon Davis-Conway,
Jackson Henry, and
Rayvon Parker competed in the long jump. Davis-Conway finished eighth with a 6.87m mark, Henry finished 12 with a 6.60m jump, and Parker finished 15th with a 5.84m mark.
In the triple jump,
Travion Walker earned 10th place with a 12.45m leap.
On the women's side,
Daria Jefferson highlighted the jump events. She finished third in the high jump, achieving a 1.46m mark.
Kallie Krenz was not far behind Jefferson, jumping 1.46m but gaining less points for a fifth-place finish. She also competed in the long jump, placing sixth with a 5.08m leap.
Lauren Rekward,
Tamia Dailey, and
Jenna Townsley also competed in the long jump for the Tornados. Rekward jumped 4.46m for 14th place, Dailey jumped 4.39m for 15th place, and Townsley jumped 4.16m for 17th place.
In the high jump, Marisley Flores jumped 1.41m, finishing ninth, and
Kristine Regalado jumped 1.31m, finishing 12th.
Elisa LeBoeuf was the lone Tornados competing in the triple jump, marking 8.70m for 12th place.
Wrapping up the jump events,
Avery Smith earned a fourth-place finish in pole vault, reaching a distance of 2.58m. Smith also competed in the javelin, finishing 10th with a 30.75m mark.
Allese Cruthcer competed in the throwing events, finishing 12th with a 10.21m shot put throw and 13th with a 28.81m discus throw.
In the javelin,
Sophia West finished 19th with a mark of 20.65m.
On the men's side,
Dylan Day finished 21st in the Javelin, throwing 37.12m.
Tristan Yates finished 17th in shot put with an 8.61m heave and 19th in discus with a distance of 27.43m.
In the sprint events,
Jackson Henry and
Chance Miller ran 100m times of 11.09 and 11.19, respectively, but did not advance to the final heat. Miller also competed in the 200m, running a time of 23.13 in the prelims.
In the 200m run prelims,
Tevin Smith finished 10th at 22.18,
Jacob Land finished 12th at 22.39,
Rayvon Parker finished 22nd at 23.29, and
Ravon Davis-Conway finished 27th at 36.91.
Tevin Smith, Michael Williams,
Cristian Jimenez, and
Jorge Garcia competed in the 400m prelims. Smith ran 51.00 for ninth place, Williams ran 52.81 for 13th place, Jimenez ran 53.47 for 16th place, and Garcia ran 53.84 for 17th place.
Sam Stewart qualified for the 800m finals and finished fourth in the finals, running to a time of 1:57.22.
In the 800m prelims, Daniel Bizimia just missed the cut, finishing 10th at 2:00.26,
Jeremy Longoria finished 18th at 2:08.39, and
Miguel Morales finished 24th at 2:17.84.
Kamron Loera led the Tornados in the 1,500m, finishing ninth with a time of 4:18.85. Bizimia followed at 4:33.72 for 16th place, Longoria was next at 4:40.30 for 21st place, and Morales rounded out the times with 5:40.17 for 28th place.
In the 5,000m run,
Rick Platas was the top Tornado runner, picking up ninth place with a time of 17:29.45.
Jacob Ismir finished 14th with a time of 18:36.99,
Thomas Hughes finished 15th with a time of 19:23.20, and Loera finished 17th with a time of 19:45.45.
Platas also finished fourth in 10,000m run, clocking in at 34:41.25.
In the 3,000m steeple chase, Ismir came close to beating his own school record. He finished fourth in the event with a time of 10:32.62.
Thomas Hughes finished 10th in the event, clocking in at 12:05.46.
In the hurdle events,
Brett Jackson and
Tony Zamora both qualified for the final heats.
Jackson finished fifth in the prelims with a time of 15.51, but a scratch in the final heat kept him from marking a time.
Zamora earned a seventh-place finish in the finals, marking a time of 1:00.00.
On the women's side,
Kallie Krenz,
Tamia Dailey,
Lauren Rekward, and
Jenna Townsley competed in the 100m. In the prelims, Krenz finished 12th at 13.29, Dailey finished 13th at 13.39, Rekward finished 14th at 13.45, and Townsley finished 15th at 13.64.
In the 200m prelims, Dailey earned 17th place with a time of 28.64, Elisa LeBoeuf earned 18th place with a time of 29.15, and Rekward earned 19th place with a time 29.69.
Moving to the distance events,
Sophia West was the lone Tornados' competitor in the 1,500m, clocking in at 7:00.61 for 16th place.
Jada Calais competed in both hurdles events, finishing 8th in the 100m hurdles with a time of 18.06 and fifth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:19.89.
With the ASC Championships in the books, the Concordia Texas track and field team will await word on national qualifiers, hoping to send athletes to compete in the NCAA Championships meet.
