RICHARDSON, Texas - After a successful 2023 season where the Concordia Texas men's soccer team reached the ASC Championship match for the fourth time in the last five years, the Tornados have tallied eight players on the All-ASC Teams. Junior defender Cameron Burleson was tabbed the conference's Co-Defensive Player of the Year. Overall, 10 Tornados were recognized as head coach Nick Mims, associate head coach Manny Iloba, assistant coach Casey Tilly & athletic trainer Miranda Heuser earned ASC Coaching Staff of the Year honors, while senior goalkeeper Joshua Redding was awarded the Sportsmanship Athlete of the year.

Theo Givens and Gustavo Hernandez joined Burleson on the First Team. Paul Claffey, Steven Dolan, Jesse Garfias and Alejandro Rojas were dubbed All-ASC Second Team while Brock Hendrickson was named to the All-ASC Third Team, the league's office announced on Wednesday.

Burleson, now a two-time member of the First Team, was dominant at the center back position all year. In the Tornados 17 matches played, they only allowed a league-best 15 goals (.882 goals per game). Burleson also clocked in over 200 more minutes (1544) than the second most on the team. Producing on both sides of the field, the San Antonio native notched five points on two goals and an assists.

Givens, also now a two-time member of the First Team, was one of the fastest players in the conference as his speed caused opposing defenses headaches all season. Often outrunning the opposition, the forward was tied for first on the team and third in the ASC with four assists. He was also third on the team with eight points as he tacked on two goals (one game winner) in his senior season.

Hernandez showed poised throughout the campaign at the midfield position. Often setting up his teammates with multiple scoring opportunities, the sophomore earned four points on two assists and one goal.

Claffey was one of the smoother forwards in the conference with his exceptional footwork. The junior transfer was tied for third in the conference with three goals, three assists and nine points (all in conference play).

Dolan played beyond his years as a freshman defensive back. The Bellevue, Washington native was stout in the backfield. Often successful on tackles and clearouts, Dolan was also productive on the offensive end with lead passes and through balls. He posted six points on a team-high four assists to go along with his lone goal of the season in a 1-0 ASC Tournament semifinal victory over Hardin-Simmons.

Garfias was an offensive dynamo in the midfield. Often streaking on attacks, his five goals (two game winners) and ten points led the Tornados offensively.

Joining the team's newcomers on the second team was Alejandro Rojas. The junior busted on the scene with a hat trick in a victory over the Ozarks in October. He then followed that up with another goal in a road win over McMurry.

Hendrickson, a junior transfer from Temecula, California, led the charge for the Tornados' defense with his timely saves and communication with the defensive backs. He led the ASC in goals allowed (seven) and an .800 save percentage. He also posted four shutouts on the season.

The Concordia Texas coaching staff was able to help their team overcome a slow start in non-conference action and produce a 6-1-1 record for the two-seed in the ASC Tournament. They were also the only team to defeat Mary Hardin-Baylor in the regular season of conference play. This is now the third time that Concordia the Concordia Texas coaching staff has received the ASC Coaching Staff of the Year with Coach Mims at the helm.

Redding, a senior goalkeeper for the Tornados, was often a bright spot with his great spirit. Always encouraging his teammates, the Waxahachie native made five starts and appeared in seven match for Concordia. Seemingly prepared and alert for every match, his professionalism was on full display when he made two huge saves during PKs in the ASC Championship match.
