Track & Field Shines at TSU Relays

Isaac Sanchez claimed first in the discus, while nine Tornados PR'd on Friday.

HOUSTON, Texas - The Concordia Texas track & field program shined in their second meet of the season at the TSU Relays. The Tornados posted nine PRs, eight medal finishes, and four season-best results on Friday.

Highlighting the day was field thrower Isaac Sanchez, who tossed the discus 39.88m for first place in the event. Joshua Zak (34.34m) & Sergio Hernandez (28.82m) showed improvement in the event as they both went for PRs. 

Excelling in the leaping events for the men was Ka'Von Moore & Nick Anderson. Moore placed second in the long jump with a leap of 6.38m. Anderson was the lone competitor in the high jump & bounded for 1.8om.

In the women's field events, Kimora Roberson posted a new discus plateau of 31.99m. The throw shattered her previous best by over three meters. In her season debut, Kiki Gonzales placed third in the shot put with a throw of 12.02m.

Rylee Whorton had herself a day with a new PR of 27.47 in the 200m. She also anchored the relay teams where the 4x100m that also featured Ashanti Bradshaw, Cachelle Flores, & Camille McWhorter earned a bronze medal with a time of 53.35. The same team would then shave off a full 11 seconds from their 4x400m time from the SU Showdown meet.

McWhorter clocked in at 1:12.50 in the 400m hurdles to place third for the women, while EJ Ramirez notched a personal-best time of 1:00.91 in the men's race. In the men's 400m, Lamarcus Justice crossed the finished line at 51.28 for a PR. Ramirez & Justice were members of a 4x100m men's relay team (Chance Miller & Jake Land) that had a season-best time of 42.78m.

In the mid-distance, Damon Vasquez PR'd and earned a third-place finish in the 800m race at 2:08.28. In the women's 800m, Ashley Rivera clocked in at 2:54.42 for a new PR. She also tallied a season-best time of 5:41.32 in the 1500m. In the men's portion of the 1500m race, Thomas Hughes crushed his previous PR with a time of 4:38.39.

Concordia Texas will next head to Seguin, Texas to compete in the D3 Challenge next Saturday, March 22nd. Hosted by Texas Lutheran.
