Cylie Wong Wins High Jump on Day Two of SCAC Championships

Wong is the first Tornado ever to claim an individual title in the SCAC.

ABILENE, Texas - The Concordia Texas track & field program turned in an impressive day two performance at the SCAC Championships, highlighted by event wins, key team points, and a wave of personal records across the roster.

The Tornados were dominant in the high jump, with Cylie Wong claiming the women's title and scoring 10 points, while Nick Anderson added eight points with a runner-up finish on the men's side. Garrett Valencik also contributed with a scoring performance, capping a strong showing in the event group.

On the track, Concordia saw major momentum with multiple athletes advancing to finals. Malaya Thomas led the charge, qualifying for the finals in both the 100m and 200m, while Gabriel Archangel advanced in the 200m. Isaias Mendoza punched his ticket to the 800m finals with a personal best, and Camille McWhorter set a new school record in the 100m hurdles while qualifying for the final.

The Tornados also saw a surge of personal-best performances throughout the day. Breanna Garrett (200m), Zaya Blackwood (100m, 200m, triple jump), Ciena Robinson (shot put), Daniel Soto (110m hurdles), Judah Edwards (110m hurdles), Garrett Valencik (high jump), Thomas (100m, 200m), Archangel (200m), and Damari Rainey (200m) all recorded PRs. Robinson also advanced to the shot put finals, finishing ninth overall.

With multiple podium finishes, qualifiers advancing, and a deep list of personal bests, Concordia carried strong momentum through day two and positioned itself well heading into the final day of competition.
