Marshall,TX- Concordia University men's basketball team picked up a close win over East Texas Baptist University Monday night at Ornelas Gym, 93-90 in American Southwest Conference play. The Tornados improve to 2-5 overall and 2-2 in league play while the Tigers fall to 4-4 and 1-3.
Concordia went into the half with an 11 point led although, the Tigers rallied in the second half to take a 5-point lead late which wasn't enough to secure the win. With two seconds left in the match up Tigers sophomore guard Jacob Turnipseed missed his second free throw which would have tied the game at 91 all. Concordia got the rebound ahead by one as the Tigers quickly fouled
Brad Walker to send him to the line securing the 93-90 victory with two made free throws.
The Tornados finished with four players in double digits led by junior
Brad Walker with 25 points while going 4-4 from beyond the arc. Rounding out the double digit efforts were
Jason Recendez with 15 points,
Joel McDonald with 13 points and Michael Sherlin with 12 points.
As a team Concordia shot 44% from the field and 47% from beyond the arc in the victory. They also picked up 41 rebounds and forced 21 Tiger turnovers.
Turnipseed led ETBU with 31 points in the loss.
Concordia will be back at home on Saturday at the Concordia Field House as they will take on the University of Texas at Tyler. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 pm. This will be the final home game for the Tornados before the Christmas holidays.
