Brownwood, TX- Concordia University Texas fell to Howard Payne University, 89-78 on Thursday night at the Brownwood Coliseum in American Southwest Conference (ASC) action. The loss drops Concordia to 5-8 overall and 4-5 in ASC play while, Howard Payne improves to 4-10 and 4-6.

The game remained tight throughout the first half with neither team being able to build more than a 5 point lead. A Howard Payne layup with under a minute to play in the first half gave Howard Payne a 35-32 halftime advantage.

The Tornados were led by Junior Jason Recendez with 13 points and 6 assists. Donald Lee and Neil Welch each added 11 points.

Howard Payne was led by Tom Hermann who finished with 25 points.

The Yellow Jackets out-rebounded Concordia 40-29 and shot 61% from the field in the game as compared to the Tornados 41% from the field.

The Tornados will travel to Alpine, TX next for another ASC match up against Sul Ross State University on Saturday. The opening tip-off is scheduled for 3:00PM.
