Alpine, TX- Concordia University Texas men's basketball program fell to Sul Ross State, 95-90 on Saturday afternoon at the Gallego Center in American Southwest Conference (ASC) action. The loss drops Concordia to 5-9 overall and 4-6 in ASC play while, Sul Ross State improves to 4-10 and 4-7.
Concordia started out strong, at they jumped out to a 15-2 run to start action against Sul Ross State. At the eight minute mark the Tornados held a 15 point, 37-22 advantage although, the Lobos chipped away at the lead as they went into half-time down 53-45.
At the midway mark of the second half Sul Ross State tied the game at 73 all with 9:38 left on the clock.
Concordia was within two of the led with 57 minutes remaining in the match up. The Lobos finalized the win three in the last seconds to give them the 95-90 victory.
The Tornados finished with four players posting double digit numbers led by junior
Joel McDonald led the Tornados with 20 points. Juniors,
Brad Walker,
Reza Farahani and
Jason Recendez added 19, 16 and 11 respectively.
Sul Ross State was led by Rod Gunter with 21 points.
Concordia finished play shooting 46 percent from the field against the Lobos . The Tornados were 11 and 22 from beyond the arc and 15 of 22 foul shots to finish at 68 percent from the line. Sul Ross State finished shooting 56 percent from the field and knocking down 18 of 27 foul shots.
Concordia will be back at the Concordia Field House on Thursday, at 7:30 pm to take on Schreiner University.
