Josh Johnson scored a game-high 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds, but it was not enough, as the Concordia University Texas men's basketball team dropped a 105-100 overtime decision to McMurry on Thursday. After dropping their second straight game at home in extra minutes, the Tornados remain in fourth place in the West Division.

Concordia (9-7, ASC 7-5) trailed 81-80 with a chance to take the last shot in the waning seconds, but Darius Anderson attempted a 3-pointer that bounced out before Teddy Chambers came away with the rebound in the left corner. The Tornados, however, took advantage of another chance after Bryant Taylor missed one of his two ensuing free throws. Tayler Jacobs hit a running jumper with 5.7 seconds on the clock to tie the game at 82. The visitors had one more opportunity to win it in regulation, but Johnson redirected Chambers' 3-point attempt from the left arc.

McMurry (10-5, ASC 8-3) netted the first three points and never trailed in the high-scoring extra session. The squad went ahead by as many as seven and led by six with 44 seconds left, but the Tornados got a huge three from Donald Lee to make it a one-possession game at 100-97 on the next possession. Johnson converted a 3-point play the old-fashioned way to make it 102-100, but that was as close as Concordia would come. Sumpter nailed two free throws with 0.9 seconds left to ice the five-point win.

The Tornados blasted out to a 20-point lead before the midway point of the first half. Nick Haynes and Jacobs combined for the game's first nine points before Hunter Martin and Lee each hit a trey to put the hosts ahead by a 24-4 score at the 13:33 mark. McMurry chipped away at the deficit and brought the Tornado lead down to 42-39 at the half courtesy of layups by Chambers and Sumpter on its last two possessions.

Concordia came out strong to start the second half and extended its lead up to nine thanks to a Chris McDermott jumper. However, McMurry clawed its way back and was able to take its first lead, 58-57, when Johnson made his last of four straight free throws leading up to the midway point of the stanza. The Tornados fought back and scored 12 straight, including five by Haynes, to go ahead 69-60. But McMurry came back once again and set up the photo finish when Johnson put together a conventional three-point play.

In addition to Johnson, Concordia was paced by four other players who netted double figures. McDermott added 14 points and 11 boards to complete his first career double-double. Nick Haynes drained 18 points, while Jacobs finished with 11 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Kenny Williams scored 10. Jaden Isler and Johnson each netted 19 points to lead seven McMurry players who scored in double figures. Derick Sumpter added 18 points, while Chambers posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Concordia wraps up its homestand on Saturday, Jan. 22 when it hosts Hardin-Simmons at 3:00 p.m.
