BOX SCORE
Longview, Texas –
Darius Anderson led the Tornados in scoring for the fourth straight game as a spark off the bench to propel the Concordia University Texas men's basketball team to a 92-82 win over LeTourneau on Saturday, Dec. 3 at Solheim Arena. It was the Tornados' third straight win.
LeTourneau (1-5, ASC 0-4) jumped out to a quick 7-2 advantage at the 18:32 mark courtesy of a layup by Luke Taylor. But Concordia (3-2, ASC 2-2) stormed back and took its first lead less than a minute later on a jumper by
Henry Riasco. The Yellow Jackets regained the lead, but it was short lived as the Tornados went on a 10-0 run to go ahead by an 18-11 score. Anderson put the visitors in front for good on a layup and capped the run by sinking two free throws.
Concordia continued to stay hot throughout the rest of the half.
Nick Haynes extended the lead to as many as 15 points at 43-28 by canning a trey shortly following the last media timeout before
Kenny Williams made a layup to close out the half.
The Tornados, who led 45-33 at the break, put the ball through the hoop first in the second half when
Travis Flye put back a miss by
Chris McDermott. LeTourneau tried to stay in it and made it a 57-49 ballgame on a Jordan Hughes layup at the 14:23 mark, but Concordia was able to get two free throws from
Larry Durand as a result of a Yellow Jacket technical foul and maintained a comfortable lead the rest of the way.
Anderson scored 19 points to lead all scorers while also adding five assists and three steals for Concordia, which got 60 of its 92 points from its bench after the reserves accounted for 69 in a road win over Texas-Tyler two days ago. Haynes poured in 14 points, which included draining three shots from long range, while Durand scored 12 and recorded three picks. Flye fell just shy of a double-double by compiling eight points and eight rebounds.
LeTourneau was paced by Hughes, who contributed 14 points, six assists and five steals. Kendrae Carter scored 15 points, while Trey Perkins netted 12 and also finished with seven boards.
Concordia (3-2, ASC 2-1) will host 15th-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 3 p.m. Special Olympics Texas teams are slated to be in attendance as part of the Athletes for Athletes program that was initiated by the school's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
