Josh Johnson scored a team-leading 18 points and Kenny Williams recorded a career-best 13 assists in leading the Concordia University Texas men's basketball team to a 110-94 win over Howard Payne on Saturday, Jan. 28 at the CTX Field House. The Tornados, who got 60 points from their bench, moved into sole possession of fourth place in the ASC West Division with their third straight victory by double figures.

The game was tight for the first 15 minutes of the first half, as neither team led by more than one possession until Darius Anderson made a jumper to give the Tornados a 27-23 lead. Concordia (11-8), which has won its last three games by an average margin of 21.3 points, then went on a big run and bursted ahead by 12 points at 46-34 on a Henry Riasco at the 3:01 mark. A jumper by Nick Haynes put the Tornados ahead by a 51-37 score at halftime.

Concordia never surrendered the lead in the second half. After Brandon Gould made two free throws to bring the margin down to single digits at 58-49 with 16:40 to play, Riasco lighted up for 11 straight Tornado points to make it a 69-51 game. Brett DeMetrotion made a bucket to create a 71-51 score before the advantage maxed out at 25 when Johnson converted a layup with 7:24 on the clock. The hosts stayed in cruise control the rest of the way.

Johnson was one of six Concordia to score in double figures, netting 18 to go along with six boards and three blocks. Riasco finished with 16 points in 13 minutes of play, while Darien Harris, Chris McDermott, Anderson and DeMetrotion. Williams had six points and three steals to compliment his 13 assists.

Howard Payne (8-11, ASC 6-9) was paced by Brandon Irwin and Joshua Dada. Irwin posted 26 points and seven boards, while Dada netted 24 points by going 10-for-14 from the field. Gould finished with 17 points and six assists.

Concordia (11-8, ASC 9-6) visits Sul Ross State on Thursday, Feb. 2 at 7:30 p.m.
