Dwayne Patterson posted a double-double in leading the Concordia University Texas men's basketball team to a 95-78 victory over LeTourneau in the American Southwest Conference opener for both schools on Thursday, Nov. 29 at the CTX Field House. The Tornados had three starters score in double figures.

The teams played the first six minutes close until Terry Corprew broke a 12-all tie by canning a 3-point field goal at the 13:55 mark to spark a 12-0 run. Henry Riasco capped the stretch with a trifecta of his own shortly before the midway point by finishing a pass from Nick Haynes. LeTourneau (1-3, ASC 0-1), however, trimmed the lead to five on multiple occasions and found itself down 43-38 at halftime after Deitrich Williams nailed two free throws.

The Tornados extended their lead to double figures early in the second half at 48-38 when Larry Durand made one of two free throws following a flagrant foul committed by Josh Thornton. The guard then set up Darien Harris for a jumper on the very next play to extend the lead to 12. LeTourneau brought the margin down to as low as five again courtesy of a Cristian Driver trey, but Concordia scored 13 unanswered to start pulling away. A free throw by Clay Marley with 1:51 on the clock gave the Tornados their largest lead of the game at 94-72 before Dwayne Patterson sealed the outcome by making a free throw with under 40 seconds left.

Patterson contributed his first double-double in a Concordia uniform by finishing the night with 20 points and 12 rebounds to go along with three steals. Haynes contributed 18 points and four assists, and Josh Sanchez recorded 14 points and seven assists while committing just two turnovers.

Concordia (1-1, ASC 1-0) will look to stay perfect in conference play when it hosts Ozarks on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 3 p.m.
