POSTGAME INTERVIEWS WITH LARRY DURAND AND STAN BONEWITZ

Austin, Texas
Nick Haynes and Larry Durand netted 18 points apiece, which included collectively canning 10 shots from downtown, in leading the Concordia University Texas men's basketball team to a 129-76 rout of Ozarks on Saturday, Dec. 1 at the CTX Field House. The Tornados, who have won both of their league games by an average margin of 35 points, set a school record for most points in an American Southwest Conference game and recorded their third-highest point total in school history.

Ozarks (1-6, ASC 0-3) got on the board first when Isaiah Boxell drained a three on his team's first possession of the game, but Josh Sanchez answered with a shot from long range on the other end to spark an 8-0 run and give the Tornados the lead for good. After a 3-pointer by Dylan Ballard made it 15-10, Concordia did not allow the Eagles to convert a field goal for nearly nine minutes and netted 37 of the game's next 38 points until Kristopher McCrary stopped the bleeding by nailing a jumper at the 6:50 mark to create a 52-13 score.

The Tornados, however, kept their foot on the gas pedal and extended their lead to as many as 47 in the frame at 62-15 courtesy of a layup by Terry Corprew. Following four good free throws by Concordia's Jonathan Garza, Marcus Bobb made a shot from the stripe to create a 72-27 halftime score.

Concordia, which avenged last season's road loss to the Eagles in convincing fashion, continued to show no mercy in the second half and went ahead by more than 50 points after Jared Galvan set up Brett DeMetrotion and followed with a good jumper of his own to make it 90-39 with 14:49 on the clock. Shortly afterwards, Jalen Strickland then canned a trey to put the Tornados over the century mark before the midway point of the frame and give the hosts a 102-49 lead. The margin grew to as many as 62 before it was all over.

Durand, who only attempted 3-pointers netted his season-high 18 points by shooting 6-for-7 from beyond the arc, while Haynes added 18 points by shooting 7-for-9 from the field and 5-for-7 from long range. All in all, Concordia fell just shy of the ASC single-game record for most 3-pointers (21) that was set by Hardin-Simmons on Feb. 19, 2009 by canning 20 in the contest. Jared Galvan, Corprew, Patterson and Sanchez also scored in double figures. Darien Harris recorded four points, three blocks and two steals in eight minutes of action.

Ozarks was led by Bobb's double-double performance. He finished with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Andrew Cummings contributed 11 points and three assists off the bench.

Concordia (2-1, ASC 2-0) will visit Mississippi College on Thursday, Dec. 6 at 5:30 p.m.
