CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – The Concordia University Texas men's basketball team suffered an 89-85 setback to Ozarks on Saturday at Mabee Gymnasium.
The Tornados (16-7, 13-7 ASC) shot 55.8 percent (29-of-52) in the contest, despite missing their top two scorers –
Josh Sanchez and
Dwayne Patterson.
Ozarks (8-15, 6-14 ASC) trailed by as much as 12 points in the first half. However, the Eagles battled back in the final period and took a two-point lead after Andrew Cummings hit a pair of free throws with 4:57 to play.
The two clubs traded the lead seven times over the next four minutes. Ozarks then took the lead for good when Ricky Allen knocked down a jumper with just 52 seconds left. The Eagles added three more points at the charity stripe to clinch the four-point victory.
Concordia had four players reach double figures, including
Adam Whitlock who scored a team-high 16 points.
Meanwhile, Ted Beard IV led all players with 22 points and 11 boards.
The Tornados will wrap up the regular season next week with a pair of league contests at home. Concordia will host league-leading Texas-Dallas at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20, to open the final home stand.
