AUSTIN, Texas – Hardin-Simmons outscored the Concordia University Texas men's basketball team 23-5 over the final seven minutes, and the Cowboys earned an 87-70 victory in the regular-season finale on Saturday at Concordia Fieldhouse.
The Tornados (16-9, 13-9 ASC) held a 65-64 advantage with 7:04 to play. However, Hardin-Simmons (17-8, 17-5 ASC) scored 11 consecutive points to take a 10-point advantage.
The Cowboys never looked back, as Concordia Texas was unable to get any closer.
The Tornados, who have lost four straight games, received 16 points off the bench from
Andre Potts.
Adam Whitlock grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds, while
Josh Sanchez scored 13 and dished out four assists.
Derrick Jefferson logged a double-double that included 21 points and 10 boards to lead Hardin-Simmons.
Prior to the game, CTX honored its three seniors –
Jonathan Garza,
Jared Jenkins and
Dwayne Patterson.
The Tornados clinched the fourth seed in next week's American Southwest Conference Tournament. Concordia will play fifth-seeded Texas-Tyler in a quarterfinal contest on Friday, Feb. 28 in Richardson, Texas. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
