12/5/2015 6:51:00 PM

BOX SCORE JACKSON, Miss. -- The Concordia Texas men's basketball team took advantage of 32 Belhaven turnovers Saturday afternoon in a big road victory over the ASC's newest transitional member. The Tornados (4-1) turned those Blazers' (1-3) miscues into 37 points in the 90-79 decision.

Demarco Richardson had a game-high 23 points and a team-best seven boards for Concordia. Dervyn Baines and Joe Neal posted 11 and 10 points, respectively, to pace the Tornado bench.

A second-half surge sealed the victory for Concordia. While the Tornados never trailed after taking a 13-12 lead at the 11:59 mark of the first half. the Blazers were able to chip away at several double-digit CTX leads, drawing as close as four twice in the second half. The Tornados went into the intermission with a 45-34 advantage. Once play resumed, Belhaven used a 9-2 run to bring the game to 47-43 in favor of Concordia with 17:10 remaining in the game.

After the two squads traded baskets over the next minute, Concordia went on a 17-3 tear helped by the fact that the defense held Belhaven to just three free throws over the next six minutes. The Tornados held a 20-point lead at 73-53 with 9:00 remaining and held would not allow Belhaven to get within less than eight during the remainder of the contest.

Concordia returns home Dec. 13 when they will take on Rust College in the first doubleheader of the 2015-16 campaign. The action starts with the women's game at 1 p.m. immediately followed by the men's game. It will be the final game of the CTX SAAC canned food drive for the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas.
