BOX SCORE PINEVILLE, La. -- The Concordia Texas men's basketball team fell 80-69 at Louisiana College Monday night to conclude a five-game, three-state, two-year road trip.
The Wildcats' (4-8, 3-3 American Southwest Conference) Anthony Gaines, Jr., had a big night, scoring a game-high 28 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Despite his big night, the Tornados (6-5, 1-1) held their own against a tough team.
Rashad Coleman went 6-of-7 from the floor to lead Concordia with 14 points.
Payton Brown-Simon and
Jhealan Wesley added 11 points each.
Ben Page had a team-best eight rebounds.
Concordia held a six-point lead with 10:15 remaining in the first half, but Louisiana College would use a 9-1 spurt soon after tying the game at 23-all to help the Wildcats take a 37-31 lead into the locker room at the half.
The Tornados answered with a 5-0 rally to open the second period, but LC answered and soon opened up a 51-41 lead with 13:54 left. CTX answered with a 9-0 tear to get within one, however the Wildcats ralllied for an 8-0 spurt of its own to open the game back up. The Tornados got as close as four at 65-61 with 6:28 on the clock, but Louisiana College would put the game away, outscoring Concordia 15-8 in the remaining time.
The Tornados return to action Thursday night against UT Tyler. Tip-off is set for approximately 7:30 p.m.
