Tornados Fall 108-107 to YellowJackets at the Buzzer in Wild Contest

Concordia Suffers First Home Loss in Nearly a Year

BOX SCORE AUSTIN, Texas -- The Concordia Texas men's basketball team was edged 108-107 by LeTourneau Saturday as the YellowJackets' C.J. Edwards hit the game-winning 3-pointer as time expired.

The Tornados (2-2 ASC, 7-6) trailed 105-104 with 36 seconds left. Then, Rashad Coleman hit a pair of free throws to give the Tornados the lead. The LeTourneau's (4-3 ASC, 6-9) Zakarius Wells had a layup blocked by Ben Page at the other end. Dervyn Baines was able to corral the loose ball. He was quickly fouled and hit the first of two free throws with 4.0 seconds left, putting Concordia up 107-105. After missing the second, the YellowJackets grabbed the rebound and quickly called timeout, setting up the game's final play.

The Tornados trailed by as much as seven during the course of the second half but came back to tie the game several times with the final stalemate coming with 20 seconds left at 105-105. In all, the contest saw 17 lead changes and seven ties.

The YellowJackets led by as much as 10 late in the first half, but Concordia was able to cut the deficit to six at the break. The Tornados' largest advantage was four. coming with 7:36 left in the game.

Joe Neal and Ben Page turned in 19 points each to lead the Tornado offense. Greg Rollins ended the day with 17 points. DeMarco Richardson and Dervyn Baines tallied 10 each. Bained grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for his second career double-double. He and Coleman also collected three blocks apiece as the Tornados out-swatted the YellowJackets 10-3.

Edwards led all scores with 23 points.

Concordia's bench accounted for 56 points, besting LeTourneau's reserves by 20. However, the YellowJackets controlled the long-range game, sinking 12 triples to the Tornados' four.

The contest was Concordia's first loss at home since Jan. 17, 2015, ending a 10-game streak.

The Tornados return to action Jan. 13 at Mary Hardin-Baylor. Tip-off is set for approximately 3 p.m. in Belton.
