BOX SCORE GEORGETOWN, Texas -- The Concordia Texas men's basketball team had four players finish in double figures as they defeated Southwestern 79-72 on the road Monday night.
Joe Neal led the way for the Tornados with 28 points on a 10-13 shooting night and added a team-leading nine rebounds. Ben Page, Rashad Coleman and Joshua Samuels all had 10 points apiece as CTX shot 48 percent from the field. The Tornados grabbed 13 steals, including four by Coleman.
CTX got off to a rough start, going down 15-8 early in the first half. Neal's jumper midway through the first half gave the Tornados their first lead of the game at 16-15. The lead was stretched to 13 points late in the first half by CTX, and headed to locker room with a 48-37 halftime lead.
In the second half, the Tornados maintained a double-digit lead through the first four minutes of the half. The Pirates slowly cut into the lead, eventually trimming the deficit to three after a free throw with under seven minutes to go in the game. With just a minute left in the game, the Tornados' lead was down to two after a Pirates' free throw, but Coleman went 3-of-4 at the charity stripe down the stretch to extend CTX's lead to five. A Southwestern missed jumper and Neal's two free throws iced the game for the Tornados as they went on to win 79-72.
Concordia moves to 2-1 on the season and goes on the road to face East Texas Baptist on Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. before their home opener on Saturday afternoon.
