BOX SCORE AUSTIN, Texas -- The Concordia men's basketball team held on late against Huston-Tillotson for a 98-94 win on Tuesday night.
The Tornados trailed the Rams 93-92 with 58 seconds remaining, but Rashad Coleman made his six throws in the final minute of the game to give the Tornados the lead and the victory. Ben Page finished with 21 points and 18 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Joshua Samuels was the team's leading scorer finishing with 26 points, while Coleman put in 18 points, including going 11-of-14 from the charity stripe.
Page's 18 boards are the most in the ASC so far this season. It is the best rebound total by a Tornado since K.B. DeBord tallied 21 in a contest on Feb. 10, 2001. He is the first player to record the mark since Eric McDade on Feb. 25, 1995.
CTX built an early lead in the first half going up 22-9 after a Samuels three-pointer. Huston-Tillotson climbed back into the game cutting the Tornados' lead to 31-27 with just nine minutes left in the half. CTX maintained a lead throughout the rest of the half, heading to the locker room up 49-47. Three Tornados were in double figures by the half, led by Samuels' 11 points.
Concordia took a 10 point lead early in the second half, but H-T was able to close a 10-point gap to tie the contest with 4:06 on the clock. The Rams then took the lead with 4:02 left to play and the two squads traded buckets until Coleman helped close out the game at the line.
As a team, the CTX defense forced 29 turnovers and converted them into 37 points.
The Tornados return to action Dec. 1 when they host Belhaven in the first doubleheader of the season. The women's game tips at 5:30 p.m. with the men's game to follow.
