AUSTIN, Texas - After another successful season in 2024 where the Concordia Texas women's soccer team made it to the SCAC semifinals in their first year in the conference, the Tornados are determined to continue the march towards championship gold. Picked second in the
SCAC preseason poll, CTX comes into the season with a load of talent.
Andy Tunnicliffe is entering his seventh season as the head coach of the Tornados, and was beaming amount the possibilities for this season. "We're really excited about this group, there's some real characters... We can see that we have some young players that have fearless energy, and that's exactly what we wanted."
The group will return a multitude of players who saw meaningful minutes a year ago, including
Maddie Oberholtzer,
Emma Payne,
Lorian Lopez, and
Avery Walker, who combined for nearly half of the Tornados' 41 goals in 2024.
Defensively,
Lilianna Cherry,
Payton Matthews,
Kayla Yancey &
Riley Jackson will look to stimey offenses once again as Concordia Texas posted eight clean sheet last season.Â
"Our tenacity, grit, and relentlessness... We're never stagnant, and are always going to move forward.", said Cherry.
Speaking on the mindset of the upperclassmen, Matthews said, "All the seniors are very determined to bring the energy. We want to leave those qualities with the team and nothing leaves with us."
CTX will also have two new faces in front of the net this season with LSU-A transfer
Avery Wright & freshman
Lemontraja Roberts (Rouse High School).
CTX kicks off the season at UMHB on Friday, August 29th. Their first home game will be on Labor Day, where they will host Southwestern. Conference play begins on September 26th, where the Tornados will travel to Longview to take on LeTourneau.Â
