Sophomore Megan Wagenaar of the women’s track & field team is the 34th Taco Bell Athlete of the Week for the 2011-12 academic year after leading the squad to its best-ever finish at the American Southwest Conference Championships. She is earning the honor for the fifth time in her career and the first time this spring.

Wagenaar was named all-conference by winning both middle distance events and was also awarded ASC Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year laurels. She recorded times of 2:17.68 in the 800-meter run and 5:00.03 in the 1,500-meters. The sophomore, who also accumulated a point in the 5,000 by placing eighth in 21:05.39, helped the Tornados finish fourth as a squad with 58 points.

Wagenaar, a business major from Missouri City, Texas, is the daughter of Jane and Lucas Wagenaar. She has one sister, Ashley.
