Chris McDermott, a freshman guard on the men’s basketball team, is Concordia’s Taco Bell Athlete of the Week for the first time after leading his squad to a 1-1 week. The Houston native averaged 16.0 points on 64.7 percent shooting from the field, including 60 percent from long range, as well as 7.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots in the two games.

In a 105-100 overtime loss to McMurry, McDermott put together his first career double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. He also shot 60 percent from the field and dished out four assists. He followed that performance up by contributing 18 points, a career-high three blocks, three rebounds and two steals in a 113-108 win over Hardin-Simmons. The freshman shot 71.4 percent from the field (5-for-7), including 66.7 percent from beyond the arc (2-for-3) in the contest.

McDermott, a business administration major, is the son of Wendy and Christopher. He has three brothers, Rahim, Rushawn and Raymond.
