Tornados to host #20 Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday

AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas men's basketball team will continue American Southwest Conference (ASC) play on Saturday when it hosts No. 20 Mary Hardin-Baylor. Tip-off for the rivalry game is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Concordia Fieldhouse.

ABOUT CONCORDIA TEXAS
The Tornados enter the weekend contest with a 4-2 overall mark and 2-2 in ASC action. Concordia defeated Sul Ross State, 93-90, in a league contest last Saturday in Austin. The Tornados are averaging 96.8 points per game and shooting 44.5 percent from the field, including 34.1 percent from beyond the arc. Additionally, CTX has forced opponent to commit an average of 20.3 turnovers per game.

ABOUT MARY HARDIN-BAYLOR
The Cru own a 3-2 ledger, including a 1-1 record in conference play. Mary Hardin-Baylor posted a 72-68 victory over Howard Payne last Saturday. The Cru's lone ASC loss came at the hands of Sul Ross State (74-70) last Thursday in Belton. UMHB averages 69.2 points per game and is limiting its opponents to 65.8 per outing. The Cru also are shooting 42.8 percent from the floor, including 39.2 percent from behind the three-point line.

ABOUT THE SERIES
• Saturday marks the 60th meeting between the two teams in the all-time series.
• Mary Hardin-Baylor owns a 47-12 record all-time against Concordia.
• The two teams squared off four times last season. UMHB won three of the four meetings, including a 117-92 decision in the NCAA Tournament Round of 32 last March. Concordia's lone win against the Cru last year was an 80-76 victory in the ASC Tournament Championship game.
• Five of the last 10 meetings have been decided by less than five points.
• UMHB has won 10 consecutive contests against CTX in Austin. The Tornados last win at home in the series was a 71-70 decision on Dec. 14, 2002, at Woltman Gymnasium – Concordia's former home at the downtown campus.

SCORE TO KEEP UP
The Tornados have put pressure on opponents this season with a potent offensive attack. Concordia ranks fifth in the nation at 96.8 points per game.  The Tornados posted 129 points in the season opener against Huston-Tillotson (Nov. 15) and have scored 93 or more points in three other contests.

SANCHEZ ON FIRE
Junior guard Josh Sanchez leads the ASC and ranks 23rd in the nation with 23 points per game. The Houston native has poured in double figures in five of the six games this fall. Sanchez has scored 30 or more points twice this season, including a campaign-best 33 against Huston-Tillotson (Nov. 15). The 6-foot, 200-pounder is averaging 28.3 points per game in the last three outings.

IT'S GOING IN
Junior forward Brett DeMetrotion currently leads the ASC and ranks 21st in the country in field goal percentage. The Allen, Texas, native has connected on 66.7 percent (30-for-45) of his field goal attempts this season. DeMetrotion knocked down eight of his 10 shots from the field in last Saturday's win over Sul Ross State. The 6-foot-7, 200-pound post is averaging 12.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game this fall.

FREE POINTS
The Tornados lead the conference and rank 13th in the nation with 159 made free throws. Concordia is shooting 74.3 percent (159-of-214) from the line. Four Tornados are shooting 80 percent or better from the charity stripe, including junior guard Andre Potts, who has knocked down a league-leading 88.9 percent (16-of-18) of his free throw attempts. Junior guard Henry Riasco (83.3 percent), senior forward Dwayne Patterson (81.1) and senior guard Jonathan Garza (80.0) also have shot 80 percent or better this year.
