KERRVILLE, Texas – Adam Whitlock banked in a 3-pointer with 3.6 seconds left to break an 88-88 tie and lead the Concordia University Texas men's basketball team to a 92-88 win over Schreiner on Saturday afternoon at Edington Gymnasium.
Whitlock received a pass from
Josh Sanchez at the top of the key and buried the final field-goal attempt of the game for the Tornados (6-2).
The junior guard ended the contest with a season-high 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including 4-for-7 from beyond the arc. Whitlock also knocked down all four of his attempts from the charity stripe.
Meanwhile,
Dwayne Patterson scored a game-high 24 points and Sanchez added 14.
Brett DeMetrotion also chipped in with 11 points.
The Mountaineers (2-7) received 16 points from AJ Myres.
HIGHLIGHTS
• Concordia trailed by as much as seven points (17-10) in the first half.
• The Tornados built a 19-point lead in the second half (78-59) before Schreiner came storming back. The Mountaineers reeled off a 29-10 run and tied the game at 88-all on Dustin Linder's 3-pointer with 13 seconds remaining in the contest.
• CTX scored 21 points off 16 Schreiner turnovers.
• Concordia has won three consecutive games.
• The Tornados are 6-0 when scoring 90 or more points this season.
• CTX finished the month of December with a 4-1 record. The Tornados are a combined 16-4 in December over the past three seasons.
• Sophomore guard
Jared Galvan made his season debut after missing the first seven contests due to a hand injury suffered during a preseason scrimmage. The Texas City, Texas, product played six minutes and collected one rebound.
• Freshman guard
Gavyn Walker scored his first career points in the first half. The Manvel, Texas, native finished a fast break with a layup to give Concordia a 32-27 lead with 4:12 left in the opening period.
• Senior guard
Jonathan Garza dished out a career-best nine assists in 27 minutes of action off the bench.

Despite fouling out with 3:49 left in the contest, senior guard
Dwayne Patterson stuffed the stat sheet on Saturday. The 6-foot-5, 205-pounder scored 24 points, grabbed eight rebounds, handed out six assists, picked up a half-dozen steals and blocked two shots in 34 minutes of action.
