AUSTIN, Texas – Josh Sanchez scored 36 points, including 16 at the free-throw line, and the Concordia University Texas men's basketball rolled to a 104-94 victory over Texas-Tyler in American Southwest Conference (ASC) action on Saturday at Concordia Fieldhouse.
Sanchez was 7-of-13 from the field, including 6-of-11 from beyond the arc. The Houston native also knocked down a school-record 16 free throws in 17 attempts.
Three other Tornados (10-3, 7-3 ASC) also scored double figures.
Dwayne Patterson netted his sixth double-double of the campaign, as the Long Beach, Calif., product scored 25 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. Patterson also dished out eight assists and collected seven steals while playing all 40 minutes.
Andre Potts hit five 3-pointers and tallied 24 points, while
Adam Whitlock turned in his first career double-double with 14 points and 10 boards.
Concordia Texas, which led 66-41 at halftime, increased its advantage to 29 points (78-49) with 14:05 to play in the second half.
The Tornados led 96-75 10 minutes later, but the Patriots (7-5, 6-4 ASC) used a 15-2 run to pull within eight points.
Concordia then outscored Texas-Tyler, which shot 61.4 percent from the floor in the contest, 6-4 over the final minute to clinch the win.
Five Patriots registered double digits, led by Chris Rios' 18 points.

• Sanchez's 16 made free throws broke the previous program mark of 15, which Patterson had tied on Nov. 26, 2013, versus Schreiner.
• The Tornados shot 51.6 percent (32-of-62) from the field, including 46.4 percent (13-of-28) from beyond the arc.
• Patterson again came close to a triple-double, as the 6-foot-5, 205-pound forward was two assists shy of the second-ever triple-double in school history.
• Potts scored 24 points, which equaled his season high. The Houston native was 9-for-14 from the floore, including 5-of-9 from behind the three-point line. Potts also was 1-for-2 from the charity stripe, and he collected four rebounds and one assist.
• Concordia outrebounded UT Tyler, 37-21.
• The Tornados drilled 13 3-pointers on Saturday, the second-highest by the squad this season (14 vs. Mary Hardin-Baylor/Dec. 14).
• CTX forced 20 turnovers, which marked the ninth time this season the opponent has turned the ball over 20 or more times.
