AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas men's basketball team will continue its four-game road trip this week with a pair of American Southwest Conference (ASC) contests. The Tornados will square off with Sul Ross State at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, followed by a 1 p.m. tilt against Howard Payne two days later.
ABOUT CONCORDIA TEXAS
• The Tornados (11-4, 8-4 ASC) have won eight of their last 10 games and currently sit in third in the league standings.
• CTX is 5-3 in road games this season.
• CTX leads the ASC and ranks 10th in the nation in scoring average (88.8 ppg).
• The Tornados ranks second in the nation with 331 made free throws.
• Concordia ranks seventh in the nation in free throw attempts (449) and 10th in total assists (259) and 12th in assists per game (17.3).
• Junior guard
Josh Sanchez leads the conference and ranks 18th in the nation in scoring average (21.9 ppg). The Houston native has registered double figures in 14 of the 15 games this season.
• Senior forward
Dwayne Patterson is the third-leading scorer in the league at 20.3 points per game. The Long Beach, Calif., product also leads the ASC in steals (3.0) per game and ranks second in rebounds (9.3) and 10th in assists (3.5) per outing.
• Senior guard
Jonathan Garza ranks third in the conference in assists (4.8) per game.
• Junior forward
Brett DeMetrotion leads the ASC in field goal percentage (.667).
ABOUT SUL ROSS STATE
• The Lobos (7-8, 6-6 ASC) have lost three of their last four games.
• Sul Ross State snapped a three-game losing streak last Saturday after knocking off East Texas Baptist, 79-75.
• The Lobos, who are 5-3 at the Gallego Center this season, are tied for sixth in the league standings, alongside Mary Hardin-Baylor.
• The Lobos rank fourth in the ASC in scoring average (77.5 ppg) and eighth in scoring defense (77.9 ppg).
• Sul Ross State also ranks second in the league in 3-point field goal percentage (.389).
• Mychal Pinson (18.3 ppg) leads the squad in scoring and ranks sixth in the conference.
• Percy Settle averages 16.1 points per outing, which is good for ninth in the league.
• Trey Richardson is the conference's top 3-point shooter, knocking down 50.8 percent (30-for-59) of his attempts from downtown.
