ALPINE, Texas – The Concordia University Texas men's basketball team won for the ninth time in its last 11 games after posting a 90-81 victory over Sul Ross State in American Southwest Conference action on Thursday night at the Gallego Center.
The Tornados (12-4, 9-4 ASC), who trailed by as much as 10 points in the opening panel, opened the second half on a 23-9 run that gave them an 11-point lead, one that they would not relinquish.
The Lobos (7-9, 6-7 ASC) was able to pull within four points with 8:53 to play, but Concordia Texas scored five consecutive points to increase its lead to 70-61.
The Tornados never let Sul Ross State get any closer than six the rest of the way before scoring the final six points of the contest to win by nine.
Dwayne Patterson poured in a game-high 31 points and tied his career mark with 16 rebounds.
Adam Whitlock added 16 points and
Andre Potts chipped in with 14.
Josh Sanchez scored 13 and
Jeromy Bynum netted a career-high 10 off the bench.
Concordia will close out its four-game road trip on Saturday at Howard Payne. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Brownwood Coliseum.
