Concordia Texas to open season-long four-game home stand on Thursday

AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas men's basketball team will open a season-long four-game home stand on Thursday night at Concordia Fieldhouse. The Tornados will match up against Mississippi College at 7:30 p.m. before meeting Louisiana College at 1 p.m. two days later.

ABOUT CONCORDIA TEXAS
• The Tornados (13-4, 10-4 ASC) have won 10 of their last 12 games and currently are tied with Hardin-Simmons for second place in the league standings.
• CTX is 6-1 at home this season.
• Concordia leads the nation with 379 made free throws.
• The Tornados also rank seventh in the nation in scoring average (89 ppg) and eighth in total assists (292).
• Senior forward Dwayne Patterson was named the ASC Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. It is the second time this season that the Long Beach, Calif., product earned the league's weekly honor.
• Patterson stands at ninth in the country in steals (47). He also ranks leads in the ASC in steals (2.8 spg), second in rebounding (9.5), third in scoring (20.4 ppg) and ninth in assists (3.8 apg).
• Junior guard Josh Sanchez leads the conference and ranks 31st in the nation in scoring (20.9 ppg). The Houston native also sits in second in the ASC in 3-point field goals made per game (2.8) and fifth in assists (4.4 apg).
• Senior guard Jonathan Garza ranks third in the conference in assists (4.6 apg).

ABOUT MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE
• The Choctaws (7-9, 5-8 ASC) have won back-to-back outings, knocking off both East Texas Baptist (77-70) and LeTourneau (69-68) at home last week.
• Mississippi College sits in eighth place in the league standings, but the squad is ineligible to participate in the ASC Tournament this year due to its impending move to Division II.
• The Choctaws average 72.1 points per game and shoot 45.6 percent from the field.
• Lakin Ford ranks ninth in the league in scoring (15.8 ppg) and rebounding (7.7 rpg).

MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE SERIES NOTES
• Thursday marks the 19th meeting in the all-time series, with the Choctaws holding a 12-6 advantage.
• CTX has won five of the last seven matchups, including a 93-83 decision earlier this season (Dec. 2) in Clinton, Miss.

ABOUT LOUISIANA COLLEGE
• The Wildcats (9-6, 9-4 ASC) have lost two of their last three contests, including a 64-63 setback against East Texas Baptist last Saturday.
• LC is only a half-game behind the Tornados and Cowboys for second place in the conference race.
• Louisiana College averages 75.4 points per contest and ranks 11th in the league in field goal percentage (.418).
• The Wildcats also sit in 12th in the ASC in rebounding margin (-6.4).
• Anthony Gaines ranks sixth in the circuit in scoring (18.3 ppg) and rebounding (7.9 rpg) and third in blocked shots (24).
• Kevin Cottonham stands in second in the conference in assists (5.1 apg) and fourth in minutes played (35.3 mpg).

LOUISIANA COLLEGE SERIES NOTES
• The two teams will meet for the 18th time in the all-time series.
• The Tornados own a slim 9-8 advantage in the all-time series, which dates back to the 1983-84 season.
• Concordia has won seven of the last 10 matchups with the Wildcats.
