AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas men's basketball team will make its final road trip of the regular season this week. The Tornados will play at Texas-Tyler at 7:30 p.m. Thursday before matching up with Ozarks at 3 p.m. two days later.
Concordia Texas (16-5, 13-5 ASC), which sits third in the league standings, saw its four-game winning streak come to an end last Thursday, but the squad bounced back to post its largest victory of the season – a 31-point win over LeTourneau last Saturday. The Tornados continue to lead the American Southwest Conference in scoring (90.1 ppg), steals (9.3 spg) and turnover margin (+2.81).
Senior forward
Dwayne Patterson is closing in on the 1,000-point milestone. The Long Beach, Calif., native has amassed 954 points in only two seasons at Concordia. He ranks third in the league in scoring (20.1 ppg), while junior guard
Josh Sanchez is the league leader at 21.3 points per outing.
The Patriots (12-9, 11-7 ASC) is tied for fourth in the ASC standings, two games behind the Tornados. Texas-Tyler has won three of its last four games, including a 101-84 victory over Sul Ross State last Saturday. Travis Dykman leads the Patriots in scoring (14.9 ppg), while Bryce Kemp is the team's top rebounder (6.5 rpg).
Concordia earned a 104-94 victory over Texas-Tyler in the last meeting between the two clubs, which took place on Jan. 11, in Austin.
The Eagles (7-14, 5-13 ASC) are fighting for a playoff spot, currently sitting in 10th place, two losses behind East Texas Baptist for eighth place. Ozarks has lost two of its last three contests, but posted an 83-73 win over Howard Payne last Saturday. Reigning ASC Player of the Week Ricky Allen (15.1 ppg) leads the team in scoring, while Ted Beard IV ranks sixth in the conference in rebounding (8.2 rpg).
The Tornados held off the Eagles for a 95-84 victory in the last matchup on Jan. 9 at Concordia Fieldhouse.
