AUSTIN, Texas – Newly appointed Concordia Texas Baseball Head Coach
Clint Mokry has identified his first hire with the announcement of
Caleb Rodriguez as the new assistant coach for CTX. Rodriguez is no stranger to the program as he is a four-year letterman who graduated from Concordia in 2018.
Mokry, on the announcement of Rodriguez's hiring, said "I am very proud to have Caleb officially named as Assistant Baseball Coach. Coach Rod was an excellent player for this program and is an even better person. After playing for us from 2015 – 2018, we were lucky to have him as volunteer and his contributions have been positively felt each day since he stepped into that role. His attention to detail is unmatched on the field and on the recruiting trail. Our players are extremely lucky to have a person like him with as much knowledge and love for the game guiding them each day. I look forward to seeing him grow as coach in the years to come."
Ronda Seagraves, Vice President for Student Experience and Athletics, added "I am ecstatic on the hiring of Coach Rodriguez to this position. His familiarity with Concordia made him the ideal candidate for the role, and he is a perfect fit."
Rodriguez is a native from Round Rock, Texas who played first and third base. In his
playing career, he racked up 79 hits, 68 runs, 55 RBIs, 68 walks and four home runs with a .252 batting average and an OBP of .401. He also made two appearances in the NCAA Regionals in 2017 and 2018. He was acknowledged for his impressive performance on and off the field with an ASC Gold Bracket All-Tournament Team selection in 2018 and 3-time ASC Academic All-Conference nominations as a student-athlete.
Upon graduation, Rodriguez remained with CTX as a graduate assistant where the Tornados won the ASC Tournament title in 2019. In that same season, Concordia Texas reached the NCAA regionals for the third consecutive year and also made history when they reached the first ever Division III Super Regionals in 2019.
Reflecting on his newly appointed position, Rodriguez said, "I would like to thank Coach Mokry for this opportunity to be the next assistant coach of the Concordia Texas Baseball Program. I have been truly fortunate to be part of the Program for the last eight years—four as a player and the last four as part of the coaching staff. I have learned many lessons and experienced situations that have molded me into who I am today. I would also like to thank
Coach Boggs for laying the foundation and never letting us forget who laid that same foundation for him. Coach Boggs has impacted a countless number of lives on and off the baseball field and I was fortunate enough to be one of those both as a player and a coach. We look forward to showing up every day and giving everything we have to this game, this community, and our players." Rodriguez added, "I would like to thank our Director of Athletics, Ronda Seagraves for being a great leader and supporter of not only the baseball program, but all of our sports here on campus. We cannot wait to get out there with our players and compete for a championship."
