Austin, Texas – The Concordia University Texas men's and women's basketball teams will open American Southwest Conference action with an away doubleheader at East Texas Baptist on Saturday, Nov. 27. The women's game is slated to start at 1 p.m. before the men tip off at approximately 3 p.m. Fans can also follow the games through a live webcast.

The Concordia women (0-1) will look to register their first win under first-year head coach Rusty Rainbolt after falling by a 79-68 decision in the season opener on Monday at St. Edward's. The Tornados, who only return five letterwinners, were led by Dominique Mayberry in the 11-point setback. A junior transfer from Houston Baptist, Mayberry registered 16 points in her Tornado debut earlier in the week. Dawn Wattley, a junior transfer from Northeastern Junior College, and sophomore Margaret Milling, last season's ASC West Division Player of the Year, poured in 12 and 11 points, respectively, in the loss.

The East Texas Baptist women (0-1), who were picked to finish fifth in the ASC East Division after finishing 12-14 overall and 10-10 in the league last season, also enter the weekend matinee in search of their first victory. The Tigers held a commanding 20-point lead with 9:41 left in their season opener before Hendrix rallied to win by a 70-61 decision. Sophomore Brandace Latin finished with a career-high 18 points on 7-for-14 shooting to lead East Texas Baptist in the losing effort, while senior Ashley Featherston added 14 points to go along with six rebounds and four assists.

The Concordia men (1-1) have had six different players score in double figures in the first two games and will look to rebound from Monday evening's 86-73 loss to St. Edward's. Sophomore Tayler Jacobs has quarterbacked the balanced attack, averaging 11.5 points and 4.0 assists per game. Both marks are team highs. Sophomore Darien Harris, who registered a double-double in the loss to the Hilltoppers, adds 9.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per contest, while junior Jason Recendez has been a spark off the bench and recently netted 10 points in the St. Edward's game.

The East Texas Baptist men (2-0), who were picked to finish third in the ASC East Division, are off to a perfect start after defeating Dallas, 95-71, and Austin by a 78-75 decision. Led by junior Jeremy LaGarde (18.0 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 4.5 apg), the Tigers have four players averaging double-digit points. Senior Jacob Turnipseed contributes 16.5 points, and senior Josh Chambers, who was named the ASC West Division Preseason Player of the Year, contributes 16 points and five rebounds. Senior Deba Egharevba averages a double-double with 14.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game.
