Senior Nick Haynes of the men’s basketball team is the 15th Taco Bell Athlete of the Week for the 2012-13 academic year. He is earning the award for the second straight week and fourth time of his career after helping the Tornados split their American Southwest Conference games on the road.
Haynes averaged 17.5 points and canned five 3-point field goals, which were both team highs, against Mississippi College and Louisiana College. He most notably scored 26 points, including 19 in the second half, in the victory over the Wildcats. The senior also had the last five points of the game for the Tornados as well as a 3-pointer shortly before halftime to create a 41-36 score at the break. The senior guard also had nine points against the Choctaws on Thursday night and two steals in each contest.
A marketing major from Irving, Texas, Haynes is the son of Keith and Angela Haynes. He has one sister, Erica, and one brother, Marquez.
