Mike Gardner amassed 242 victories between 2000 and 2009, and sits second on the leaderboard for most victories in the program's history.
Gardner most notably led Concordia to a 35-14 record, including 20-7 in league play, and the College World Series in 2002. The Tornados garnered victories over Pomona-Pitzer and Trinity twice to advance and earn the right to compete for a national title in Appleton, Wis. Concordia’s 2002 squad remains the only team from Texas to advance to the College World Series at the NCAA Division III level.
During his 10 years as the pilot of the program, Gardner also helped the Tornados make six appearances in the American Southwest Conference Tournament. In addition to leading the Tornados to the title in 2002, he was named the ASC West Division Tri-Coach of the Year after piloting the program to the championship game in 2008.
All in all, Gardner mentored 85 student-athletes who went on to earn ASC postseason recognition. Nine of them went on to earn major awards - as ASC West Division Newcomer of the Year, ASC West Division Pitcher of the Year and ASC West Division Freshman of the Year – for their efforts.
