Basketball Teams Visit Texas Lutheran and Schreiner This Week; Live Webcasts Available

Austin, Texas – The Concordia University Texas men's and women's basketball teams will continue conference play when they hit the road to visit Texas Lutheran on Thursday, Jan. 13 and Schreiner on Saturday, Jan. 15. Forever Video Productions is slated to webcast all of the action for fans who can't make the games.

The Concordia women's team (6-6, ASC 5-4) is riding a three-game winning streak, its first since the 2008-09 season. After defeating Texas-Dallas, 66-61, Ozarks, 84-65 and Mary Hardin-Baylor by a 66-62 score, the team enters this week's action in a three-way tie for third place in the American Southwest Conference West Division. Shamika Singleton has continued to pace the Tornados, averaging 16.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals over the three games. She ranks fourth in the league in two categories, contributing 15.7 points and 8.8 rebounds per contest on the season. Junior forward Lashanda Luckey has averaged nine points during the win streak and is now averaging 7.8 points pe contest. Junior point guard Alex O'Neal had arguably her two best games by contributing eight points, five steals and seven assists against only two turnovers in the Ozarks win before netting 13 of her 16 points in the second half against Mary Hardin-Baylor. Margaret Milling, a sophomore guard, averages a league-best 2.8 steals per game off the bench.

The Concordia men (7-6, ASC 5-4), who lead the league in scoring offense (88.0 ppg), are tied for fourth in the ASC West Division after losing two of their three home games this past week. The Tornados most recently dropped a 107-100 overtime decision to Mary Hardin-Baylor, a team receiving votes in the d3hoops.com national poll, to fall just short of sweeping a season series against the Cru for the first time in program history. Sophomore point guard Tayler Jacobs has had the hot hand lately, averaging 21 points, five assists and over two steals during the last three games. He netted a career high for points in the last two, scoring 21 against Ozarks before exploding for 33 against Mary Hardin-Baylor. In addition to leading the team in scoring (14.2 ppg), Jacobs also ranks second in the league in assists (4.3) and free throw percentage (.893). Junior forward Josh Johnson averaged 13 points last week and is scoring at a 10.8 clip while ranking tied for third in the conference with 1.3 blocked shots per game. Nick Haynes, who adds 11.1 points per contest, continues to be one of the league's top three-point shooting threats.

Despite ranking sixth in the ASC West Division standings, the Texas Lutheran women's squad (4-8, ASC 3-5) will enter Thursday night's action having won three of its last four games, which included a triple-overtime victory over Schreiner. The Bulldogs have been paced by Tamisha Timpson, a returning all-conference player who leads the team in three of the major five statistical categories. The junior forward averages 13.8 points, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals per contest, while her assists mark ranks third in the ASC. She also pulls down 7.3 rebounds, which is second on the squad. Rebecca Valdez, a junior forward, also nets double figures (10.3 ppg) to go along with 5.8 boards and a team-leading 0.7 blocks per game. Junior guard Kimberly Hagan has added 21.5 points and 7.5 rebounds over the last two contests.

The Texas Lutheran men's team (5-6, ASC 4-4), which ranks second in the league in scoring defense (66.4 ppg) and is tied for sixth place in a crowded ASC West Division, has won four of its last six games and has a 2-1 record during its current five-game homestand. Isaac Williams leads the team in scoring (12.1 ppg) and rebounding (7.4 pg). He is also fourth in the conference in steals (2.1 pg). A notable addition to the lineup has ben Henry Flores. The senior forward, who transferred from Sul Ross State and was an all-conference second teamer last season, averaged 13.0 points and 5.5 rebounds last week and accounts for 9.8 points and 4.4 boards in five games this season. Senior guard Malcolm Dotson contributes 6.6 points and 2.9 assists per match.

The Schreiner women (4-8, ASC 2-6), who find themselves in seventh place in the ASC West, have earned a pair of two-point conference victories over Ozarks, 51-49, and LeTourneau, 60-58, this season. Julissa Garrett leads the Mountaineers, accumulating 12.2 points and 1.6 steals per game. Olivia Swarner averages 7.1 points to go along with 4.9 boards and 1.1 blocks, which are both team highs. The freshman post player has netted 14.0 points over the last two contests. Other players making strong contributions include guards Kristy Guerra and Lia Phillips. Both players dish out 1.7 assists per game.

Schreiner's men's squad (6-6, ASC 4-4) is tied for sixth place in the ASC West with Texas Lutheran and has won its last two games by 15 points. Guard Darren Smith has paced the team so far and averages 17.9 points, which ranks third in the league and first among freshmen. He also averages a conference-best 3.1 three-point field goals per game as well as 2.8 assists. Junior guard Tyrie Prince scores at a 12.2 clip and is third in the league with 2.2 steals per contest, while senior center Mitch Lawrence ranks first on the squad in rebounding (5.7 pg) and blocked shots (0.8 pg). Riley Battle, a senior forward, accounts for 14.0 points off the bench.
