Austin, Texas – After registering double-digit wins over Ozarks, the Concordia University men's and women's basketball teams will conclude a three-game homestand when they host Mary Hardin-Baylor on Monday, Jan. 10 at the Concordia Field House. Forever Video Productions is slated to webcast both contests, which will begin with the women's game that tips off at 5:30 p.m.
The Concordia men's team (7-5, ASC 5-3) trailed by 20 points in the second half before rallying to beat Mary Hardin-Baylor by an 89-85 decision when the teams met in Belton last week. After splitting their home games against Texas-Dallas and Ozarks, the Tornados are tied for third place with McMurry in a crowded West Division.
Tayler Jacobs has paced the Tornados during the homestand by averaging 15.0 points, 5.5 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals over the two-game stretch. Chris McDermott has come alive, averaging 9.3 points in the last three games. He contributed 18 points off the bench in the team's 13-point win over Ozarks.
Hunter Martin, a Dallas Baptist transfer who made his Tornado debut against Texas-Dallas on Thursday, has added more depth to the team's point guard position. He had nine points and seven assists in 18 minutes of action against Ozarks.
The Concordia women's squad (5-6, ASC 4-4) has won both of its games during the current homestand, defeating Texas-Dallas, a team which was recently receiving votes in the WBCA national poll, before earning a convincing victory over Ozarks. Mary Hardin-Baylor, which earned a 60-51 victory over Concordia last Monday in Belton, will be the Tornados' seventh opponent with a winning record over the last eight games. Rusty Rainbolt's squad has been paced by junior transfers and returning sophomores while playing through a brutal portion of its schedule.
Shamika Singleton, who had one of her four double-doubles against the Cru last wek, leads the squad in scoring (16.5 ppg) and rebounding (8.9 pg). The junior center has averaged 21.0 points on 60.9 percent shooting as well as 8.5 rebounds during the team's current winning streak, while

Brianna Smith and
Alex O'Neal are coming off solid efforts against Ozarks. Smith canned four 3-pointers in the opening 4:28 of the contest and finished with 14 points, while O'Neal added eight points, seven assists and five steals.
The Mary Hardin-Baylor men (10-2, ASC 6-2) have won eight of their last nine games and will enter Monday night's showdown in a tie for first place in the West Division. The Mary Hardin-Baylor women's team (8-4, ASC 5-3) fell into a tie for second place in the West Division following a heartbreaking 60-59 defeat against Texas-Dallas on Saturday in which the Comets won on a pair of free throws made with just one second on the clock. Lindsay Eaton, who made the all-conference first team last year, leads the Cru and nearly averages a double-double with 14.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per contest. Brittany Zamora and Landie Thompson also score in double figures, averaging 12.8 and 10.3, respectively. Thompson is fourth in the conference in field goal percentage (.521), while Zamora also accounts for 2.9 assists and has averaged 19.5 points in the last two contests.
