Austin, Texas – With postseason implications on the line, the Concordia University Texas men's and women's basketball teams will trek north to Abilene to face McMurry on Thursday, Feb. 10 and Hardin-Simmons on Saturday, Feb. 12. Forever Video Productions is slated to webcast all four games with Sports Information Director Matthew Chmura calling all of the action.

Concordia's women's squad (12-8, ASC 11-6) moved into a tie for second in the West Division and is in a position to make its first ASC Tournament appearance since the 2004-05 season after beating Sul Ross State, 96-48, and Howard Payne, 73-69, at home this past week. Junior Shamika Singleton continued to pace the Tornados by averaging 20.0 points on 65.2 percent shooting from the field and 12.0 rebounds in the two games. For her efforts, she was named the ASC West Division Player of the Week for the second straight time and landed on the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week. Singleton ranks second in the league in scoring (17.8 ppg), third in rebounding (9.6 pg), third in field goal percentage (.528) and third in steals (2.3 pg). Starting junior forwards Tiesha Martin and Lashanda Luckey also had strong performances during the homestand. Luckey most notably finished with 10 points, five rebounds and four assists in the Sul Ross State win, while Martin had 16 points and six boards in the victory over Howard Payne. Concordia's deep bench is still being led by Margaret Milling, the league leader with 3.0 steals per game after recording nine more against the Lobos and Yellow Jackets, and Dominique Mayberry, who is second on the squad in scoring behind Singleton (8.2 pg).

The Concordia men (13-8, ASC 11-6) are on the brink of earning their fifth straight ASC Tournament berth after registering convincing victories over Sul Ross State, 106-82, and Howard Payne, 110-81, this past week at the Field House. Tayler Jacobs once again paced the Tornados, who are in fourth place in the West Division, by averaging 20.5 points on 61.9 percent shooting from the field, including 58.3 percent from long range, as well as 5.0 assists and 2.5 steals per contest. Jacobs currently leads the team in scoring (15.4 pg) and assists (4.4 pg), while the marks rank seventh and third in the league, respectively. Freshman guard Darius Anderson has continued to be a spark off the bench, netting a career-high 23 points against Sul Ross State before adding 16 versus Howard Payne. Kenny Williams registered his first career double-double with 13 points and 10 assists to go along with six steals in the win over the Lobos and added another 12 points and five helpers two days later against the Yellow Jackets. His assists and steals marks in the Sul Ross State game were career highs. Concordia needs one more win combined with a loss by Texas Lutheran or two more losses by Texas Lutheran to clinch an ASC Tournament berth this weekend.

McMurry's women's team (13-8, ASC 11-6) finds itself in a three-way tie for second place with Howard Payne and Concordia and two games back of first-place Hardin-Simmons following a 63-54 victory over Texas Lutheran last Monday. The squad is the only team to defeat 17th-ranked Louisiana College, which it did on its home floor on Jan. 8, and has won five straight games since being swept by the Tornados and Cru a few weeks ago. McMurry has relied on a balanced scoring attack and only has one player who averages double-digit points. Senior center Anna Berthel leads the team in points (10.6 pg) rebounds (6.1 pg) and blocked shots (3.3 pg). Her blocks mark ranks third in the league. Other major contributors include freshman forward Keshia Collins (9.6 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 2.3 spg) and sophomore guard Rikeita Thomas (9.2 ppg). Thomas netted a team-high 17 points in a 75-64 loss to the Tornados earlier in the year.

The McMurry men (14-7, ASC 12-5) enter Thursday's action in a tie for second place with Hardin-Simmons and looking to clinch a spot in the ASC Tournament. They are just one game behind Mary Hardin-Baylor and one game ahead of Concordia. McMurry, which rallied to defeat the Tornados by a 105-100 score in overtime a few weeks ago, has been led by forwards Steven Jones and Teddy Chambers. Jones leads three players who average double-digit points, scoring at a 14.3 clip. Chambers averages 11.4 points and ranks first in the league for grabbing 8.8 rebounds per game. Junior guard Jared Isler is second in the ASC in assists per game, dishing out 4.7 per contest, and adds 9.8 points. Senior Derick Sumpter, the squad's second-leading scorer after Jones at 13.9 points per game, has scored at a team-best 19.3 clip over the last three games.

The Hardin-Simmons women (16-4, ASC 13-4) sit in first place in the West Division for tournament hosting rights, but the squad enters the week just two games ahead of Howard Payne, McMurry and Concordia. The Cowgirls, who have won two straight games after suffering a 68-66 setback against crosstown-rival McMurry on Jan. 31, are led by the Lindsey Newcombe and Jasmine Lewis. Newcombe, a senior center who is the reigning ASC West Division Player of the Year, averages a double-double with 16.5 points and a league-leading 13.5 rebounds per game. She ranks third in the ASC in scoring and blocks per game (2.8), while her .579 field goal percentage is second. Jasmine Lewis and Alex Popelar average 12.8 and 11.3 points, respectively, while Lewis has led the Cowgirls in scoring the last three games. Coco Cartwright, who netted a team-best 17 points in a 71-66 come-from-behind win over the Tornados earlier in the season, contributes 8.9 points and 2.5 assists.

Even though it sports the same ASC record as McMurry, Hardin Simmons' men's program (13-8, ASC 12-5) punched its ticket to the conference tournament with a 91-84 victory at Schreiner on Saturday by virtue of sweeping its season series against Texas Lutheran. The Cowboys have won of their last five games after dropping a 113-108 decision to Concordia in Austin last month. Junior guard Matt Addison, who has arguably emerged as the frontrunner for ASC West Division Player of the Year, honors, contributes 24.4 points, 5.4 assists and .4.2 steals per game. All three marks are ASC bests, while his .933 free throw percentage is also a league high. Guards Derrick Jefferson and Terrance Booker also score in double figures, adding 11.1 and 10.6, respectively, while veteran guard Casey Riddle ranks third in the ASC with 2.2 steals per game and scores at a 9.5 clip.
